1997 HARVEST

BLUE-GREEN ALGAE, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (L.) Ralfs.

Freeze-dried, this special algae has been harvested from the Upper Klamath Lake (Southern Oregon) for more than twenty years. The rain and snow that falls on more than four thousand square miles of mineral-rich volcanic soil washes into this lake. It is these minerals that make this a very special algae.

What makes this a superior blue-green algae to either spirulina and chlorella is that it has been harvested from natural sources. The other two primary blue-green algaes are grown in controlled growth ponds, with far less mineral resources from which to grow. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae also holds a lower bacterial count than spirulina, giving it a longer shelf life.

Aphanizomenon flos-aquae has been freeze-dried to retain the essential neuro-peptides (amino acid precursors which cross the blood-brain barrier). The presence of these neuro-peptides makes Aphanizomenon flos-aquae a very important dietary supplement. Their presence allows a true nerve cell (rather than glial) to be manufactured in the neuro-cavity, thus qualifying it as a true "smart-drug.". Of all the algaes marketed, only this blue-green algae can be called a "smart-drug."

Brown Resources, Inc., a fourth generation agricultural family in the region, has now produced this crop for more than ten years, cost-reducing its production to make it competitive with other dietary supplements. It is the expensive freeze dry process, however, which makes this a "best buy." No other dietary supplement regenerates true nerve cells.
