RE: Rebaud’s Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana L.)
2 metric ton COG Whole Leaf

Stevia rebaudiana is an herb in the Chrysanthemum family which grows wild as a small shrub in parts of Paraguay and Brazil. The glycosides in its leaves, including up to 10% Stevioside, account for its incredible sweetness, making it unique among the nearly 300 species of Stevia plants.

The availability of artificial sweeteners has been of enormous benefit to diabetics. Could stevia substitution be a good alternative in diabetics? Stevia leaves have been used as herbal teas by diabetic patients in Asian countries. No side effects have been observed in these patients after many years of continued consumption (Suttajit, 1993). Furthermore, studies have shown that stevia extract can actually improve blood sugar levels (Alvarez, 1981, Curi, 1986).

Richter’s of Canada has determined this crop to be one of the more popular cultivated in 2005-6. Seed was cultivated for projected farm seed stock sales, and the leaf was then taken as a by-product (by hand). It was all cultivated organic and C/L is also available. There is 2 metric tons (4,400 lbs.) packaged in polypropylene woven bags, 10 kg per bag.

The product wants to be sold as an entire lot, as both locations do not have storage facilties. It will be kept in Israel until sold. It will then be shipped to ONT as part of the sale, and then shipped by the carrier of choice. Two-week lead-time from sale commitment to delivery. We will provide all necessary customs and legal documents.

Price: US$10/Kg. (or $4.54/lb.), FOB Goodwood, Ontario, Canada.
This is hand-harvested, with no stem (premium grade whole leaf). Further quantities will become available with new farm cultivations in 2005. Leaf samples are available upon request.
